Repealing the UK's blasphemy laws

Briefly...

• Contrary to secularist waffle (sadly picked up by some Christians), the blasphemy laws never had anything to do with whether "God can take care of himself".
  
  
• Even if it did, the fact that God can take care of himself (which is true) should make us tremble with fear for our sins, not become casual about blaspheming his name.
  
  
• The blasphemy laws had to do with the conviction that Christianity was true.
  
  
• The blasphemy laws had to do with the conviction that Christianity was public truth. As in, truth not just for me or you, but for everyone.
  
  
• Jesus Christ is Lord, risen from the dead, and ruling the nations - now.
  
  
• "Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)
  
  
• Therefore, rulers in wiser times concluded, it would be prudent to not bring down the wrath of God upon us by permitting open and public blasphemy.
  
  
• It's no business of the state to monitor all that's done and said outside of the public realm. Such laws are not about the setting up a theocracy, or religious coercion. They are, though, about religious confession. Jesus is indeed Lord!
  
  
• The repeal of the blasphemy laws has to do with the conviction that Christianity is not true. It's just that the secularists aren't honest or brave enough to say so.
  
  
• The repeal of the blasphemy laws has to do with the conviction that Christianity is not public truth. The secularists are so kind as to allow us to believe it in private, as long as we don't bring it out of our own homes or pretend that it has anything to do with objective reality. It's a nice set of "values" for you, but do keep them to yourself. In the public sphere, we must behave either as if there were no god, or as if there were many (pluralism).
  
  
• Sadly, the political discourse in the UK is so dumbed-down and frequently inane (including amongst those who the establishment care to permit as our "religious leaders", whether or not those leaders are actually representative), that making any of the above points will identify you as being beyond the pale.
  
  
• God is not mocked. What a man, parliament and/or nation reaps, that will he/it/they also sow.
